U.S. Launches National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship

EcoSeed

The White House Council on Environmental Quality has launched a new initiative to encourage the recycling of used or discarded electronics in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, General Services Administration (GSA), and executives of major electronics manufacturers, according to an article from EcoSeed.

Under the plan, entitled National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship, the GSA will ensure the use of energy-efficient electronics and electronic waste recycling in all federal agencies of the federal government, currently the largest single user of electronics in the U.S. In addition, the plan also directs the GSA to remove electronics that fail to meet efficiency standards from federal agency use.

According to the article, the plan also provides a definition of "sustainable electronics" to inform buyers of products with limited environmental impacts and incentivize federal agencies to purchase such products.
